Sergei Vorobchukov
   Sergei was lucky to be a driver's son and had an opportunity to spend a long time at the garage enviably neighbour boys.
   He taught to drive his father's "Mockvich 407" at about 8. He could not jnly drive but knew much about cars a like a mechanic. When he became older he coped with more serious models. In rural schools they used to organize the so called labour term in summer for fifteen-year old boys when they learned to drive tractors and combines. That time Sergei at steering wheel mastered the elements of work.
   People called him Serega- motor not only because of him being crazy on machinery.
   Marina Vasilievna Zaitseva his teacher remembremembered that he was the best organiser of his schoolmates, he could encourage them to do something useful : to repair the desks or set up a football team. So he became the class monitor. And the job as well. Long before the school leaving ceremony he has made up his mind to study at the politechnic institute. But it was not easy for rural school graduate to enter there.But he proved himself and others that he could gain his aim. He was selected from among other candidates and entered the machine building faculty of the Politechnic Institute. He needn't to study to be independant. He lived in a dormitory and made some money on the side. They offered him to organize student council and he agreed. He created a photolab and a showing room.
   He met Larisa here at the Institute.They have been living for almost twenty years.
   His students mates worked in consruction teams, in was not enough for him who used to work hard living in a country. After the second year he went to the Krasnoyarsky region in Siberia for timber harvesting. He worked as s a driver and tractor driver . He worked with men who were older,the so called "Taiga bears. They saw much in their lives and were wise people. But they were equal and they taught him composure, reasonableness,self-control.
IN FUEL OIL
   The instructors today remember that he grasped every task as a whole and could see the main points unmistacably. So he had real constructor inclinations. The professors offered him to work at the descriptive geometry department and take a postgraduate course. But he refused. He wanted to have something real.
   That's why he declined a good opportunity to go to Kazakhstan.That job was not to his liking.
   At the Republic Gosagroprom machibery base where he got a job, he had to work in fuel oil but he liked it. They Sergei soon and offered to be the head of engineering division. And elected Vorobchukov to be The the trade union leader( (the youngest, by the way at all the industry eneterprises.)
   You can say that it's a good promotion(career). Another person would be glad if he had only part of it. But it doesn't not Vorobchkov. The head of the base of old training and trytried to hold everything in his fist. But Sergei would not agree, argue and mademade a stand of his own opinion. But the system taught him much: discipline maintenance, mutual responsibility and , honesty, result as a final aim.
   And one more point he understood at the base: you should deal with people, not machinery. You always have a result if you have a team. It helped him to work with people who were older.
   They realisedrealized he had will and he is a reliable person.
HIS OWN BUSINESS
   In late 1980s with perestroika beginning Vorobchukov realised that he could work himself: he knew machinery thoroughly and the chain of supplies from manufacturer to customer backwards. The main point is that he understood that the system existing become obsolete and ineffective. They ca,n work without queues, deficiit, problems with spares! He knew how to achieve it
   In 1989 Vorobchukov set up "Agroservice" firm. They studied market principles together with the country. He counted on relationships with plants and business relations with farms.. Within several years he had gone the country, visited all the enterprises manufacturing machinery for agriculture. He would convict, settle, offer. He achieved what he wanted: Agroservice is known in the region. The heads of farms, farmers realised that Vorobchukov is a reliable person. They can trust him. And he has kept his word.
   Almost all the team he had,is working with him now. The selection criteria were simple. Sergei is sure that it's not enough to be professionals. People must communicate and cooperate, work in team, to have responsibility of the area and the whole business as well. Be honest, decent, do nothing the enterprise to suffer from! Follow these principles and other things you can study.
   It is his point of view.
The Karbyshevckaya Base second birth
   In January, 1997 Sergei Vorobchukov became the head of the Rarbyshevskaya Base. By that time the industry's largest enterprise had turned out to be in a difficult situation. The base's head Carl Ivanovich Corn came to him and offered to nominate Sergei for election. The elections were alternative, but people knew Vorobchukov and his work. So they adopted him unanimously. Though Sergei stated that he was going to work in the way he considered to be the best and he would be firm if necessary.
   He came with his team: they were people with new knowledge and approaches. And they began reforms which changed fundamentally traditional views on the supplies base. Budgeting, logistics,marketing, advertisment- that was novelty not jnly for the base but Omsk as well. I'll give an example: they opened a shop, a canteen for customers. People usually came from far away and when they are having their order reserved, they can have a snack. There are subsidiaries in all the region's districts.
   Today "Karbyshevskoe" joint stock company is one of the most effective region's agriculure enterprises which is a modern complex of maintenance, modernization, service, agriculture machinery selling. Vorobchukov is proud of the fact that he could not only keep the staff, but augmented it: there are 345 employees( there were 76 of them). There are many young people. Vorobchulkov is taking care of personnel reserve. He selects promising young people: in institutes, vocational training schools. They are the future of Karbyshevskoye.
   Some twenty years ago when Sergei Vorobchukov left Astyrovka to study, he promised his parents to come back to the country. And he has kept his word. But his job now - the whole region. He is spending more time in districts than in the city. And his own house is not in the city. Because he, having grown up in the country, is sure that this is the only place to live for villagers. He has built his own house himself, planted the garden which he is proud of not less than the enterprise's achievements.
   Home is the main notion for Vorobchukov. He has a good family. He met Larisa whem they were students, they are working together. They have two daughters. Pauline, the elder is fifteen, she is going to leave school and dreaming to be a painter. Her talent is obvious for many people but her father is the first admirer. Pauline's works decorate the father's study. The younger, Veronika is only two. She studied to speak not long ago, but she has eyes like those of Sergei. And the gestures as well.
   As in his childhood his main hobby is cars. He has collected an exposition of old and rarity(curiosity) cars within several years. The famous thirty hundred-weight lorry, ZIS-5,GAZ-67. Not to be museum exhibits,he was seeking them which were rusty, taken away in the countries and.repaired. The word museum is not proper for his collection. The cars, "his pensioneers" are going round the region. His aim is to show the boys the cars their grandfathers used.
FORWARD MOVEMENT
   This spring they has set up a new public organization in the region - Omsk Agriculture Movement.
   It was created by countrymen for country and it seems to unite agriculture workers for the first time: Regional Farmer Association, Agriculture Trade Union, Agriculture Union, Omsk Subsidiary of Russian Agriculture Movement, "Club 100"... "To unite means to become more powerful" - it's the movement's logo.
   They trusted Sergei Vorobchukov to become the leader. They know that it is he who can and is ready to solve the country problems. At any level and even in Moscow. His energy is enough for ten persons. But at the same time Vorobchukov isn't consider him to be a politician. He thinks he is a person who deals with agriculture.
   It seems that his day consists of 24 hours. And he doesn't know the word "impossible". In all the cases he could find a decision - he is not only sure of it, but proves that it's true. He doesn't like to discuss what he has done. It's not his character's feature. But if he looks back, it doesn't mean he wants to boast about the achievements. He is eager to realise if it was possible to do it in other way. And forward movement again! New day means new tasks and they have work for everybody.
