Sergei Vorobchukov, without exaggeration, is among the most famous persons of our region. Being a successful businessman, a year ago he made a step to politics. Then, to surprise of many people, Sergei Anatolievich set up a distinctive record of Omsk region, having got 75% of the constituensy voters during the State Duma Elections. Nobody has had similar result there. And in Russia as a whole only 6 candidates met ( enjoy) with support of more people than Vorobchukov. Since that time they have written and spoken much about him, but there is one interesting thing- he used to remain in the shadow of his acts and his work. So the main thing I was eager to find out going to interview with him, was to know what is Sergei Vorobchukov like.
There is a massive statue of auroch made of dark wood before me on the great office table. It was the beginning of the story...It turned out not only an old present for the study host Sergei Vorobchukov got during one of his visits to Buelorussia.Having caught his eyes, the auroch has become a philosophical symbol, a new idea, and a future monument project at the same time.
We all have our aurochs in the mind." - Sergei Anatolievich said. - Its an image, the symbol of resistance to the new. If something new, progressive to sink in your consciousness, there is such an auroch which is difficult to put out of the head. It is powerful so he could not communicate, but refuse stubbornly. Everybody must recover such an auroch in himself," get rid of it drop by drop".
And the reminder of it may happen to become the statue of that auroch erected by Vorobchukov -it will be an enlarged copy of that at his table. It will be soon because he didn't use to be slow with his ideas implementation. He has already found the place for the monument.
- Let's call it" the symbol of livestock sector", he smiles for those who don't know.
Don't sleep.
This "auroch philosophy" appeared after one of the numerous meetings when he tried to explain his collegues the advantages of new methods of soil cultivation search. One of the examples of such technology is "no till". The essense of it that we don't plough soil and it doesn't erode and carbonic acid from this "land's wound" is not given off into the atmosphere.
Moreover, in comparison with generally adopted technology we manage to decrease three times as much fuel consumption because of operations reduction ( there are only three of them: seeding, fertilizers application, harvesting). Surely, the crops are not worse. In dry summers the fields where "no till" is used are richer with crops.
It sounded tempting, coloured and strikingly but even for me - having little with farming - some idealistic. I said to Sergei Anatolievich about it. But the response was unexpected:
- But I am not going to introduce this "no till" everywhere in the region tomorrow. It's impossible. Soil must restore for five years, gain strength as a result of many years of traditional cultivation. The point is that traditional and alternative technologies comparison is like a toy for adults, a kind of training. They learn that they work in other way, begin comparing, argue - and some thought occured. Even if not take this "no till" technology, they improve their traditional scheme.
The main point is that a person mustn't sleep and touch the ground while acquiring knowledge doing something. If there are blank spaces. It pressures and disturbes. If you know everything, you can appraise the situation, select, define disadvantages, introduce (implement) the most important components of both schemes, coincide them. It's a possibility to regard your activity philosophically and creatvely. And for those who work in their land tha most important is to realize that land is a great unique gift. It's the world where we live on its roof.
Whilie hearing such words your heart stop beating. It's true and nice. And very simple. It's clear that this person lives eventful life. Every day is like the last one. And the more intensive is life, the higher is life satisfaction.
THE HOUSE HE LIVES IN
- Sergei Anatolievich, what are you thinking about when you wake up in the morning? Can you look out of the window and to be glad of a new day? Or do you think about the problems you'll have to solve?
- In the morning I went to the garden and water the trees. I planted all of them, there are no casual ones. . A bird cherry tree is from Bolsherechje ( district centre in Omsk region). There is a beautiful place there which is called Tcherny kust (Black bush) - I took it there. There are some Siberian pines from Tara, I have plants even from Germany. Any tree has its own history, it is connected with some event. And when you have routine things you get clossal emotional supply for the whole day.
But it's in summer. In winter I always have a rest. I take hot tea, a notebook and have a rest...
Trees, snow, fresh air, "you take it all in, this nature calmness think it all over.
Vorobchukov has built his house himself - it was long ago when he graduated from the Politechnic Institute. I used money having earned during summer vacations. He has built it and has been living until now - together with his wife and two daughters. Having grown up in the country, he is living in his homeland and hasn't become a city dweller. But nobody should follow his example.
- A person should live anywhere he wants. My fate has willed so. But there are many advantages in it. I've laid out my garden, a very good one. Physical exercises are useful for health. In winter I have to remove much snow.
A State Duma member removes snow!... But it was not the only shock. And not the last. He happens to drop in at "Bacon'" (the butcher's) at Lenina street. "I met the student of the same year there", Sergei Anatolievich smiles.- We talked and found out that he is the only person of us who works according to diploma: he sells bearings. Vorobchukov's laughter is sad. A State Duma member and the leader of Omsk Agriculture Movement is a welding engineer according to diploma. He inherited his love to machinery from his father who worked as a driver. And the first memory about the world is connected with his father and his profession:
- We are driving with my father in his old ancient bus. He allowed me to steer the wheel. And, standing on the driver's seat I am in the charge of this huge thing. Really my father was steering the wheel but I thought that it wwas me who was driving a bus. I think this event defined my future life.
Step by step.
But he seems not to believe in destiny. At least he is the arbiter of his own one - he has written his life from the first up to final line. Step by step. Defining goals and solving problems one by one. First it often seemed the solution was next to impossible. But only those are for him. They don't fit into usual routine scheme and so require more efforts, mind, creativity. The experience proves that there are no impracticable tasks. One should think, plan, count. If he can't do it, it simply means that a person is not mature enough!
- There is always an affair you must do properly today, - says Vorobchukov.- It's good when you as many of such things as possible. Try to live at the breaking point of his possibilities, try to store experience- different kinds of it. And one day you have conditions to take another step. You see, the situation is taking shape in inside and outside, then they coincide with each other and you have a chance to be at a higher level. You must always be ready for it, otherwise you miss the opportunity - and it's good that it's a provisional thing but sometimes it is forever.
- Do you have time for your family?
- It's a sore subject. I have little time. But the family is the main capital and I have to make a compromise with work and family. It's very difficult. Some time ago we watched chess tournament on TV and my little daughter exclaimed: " My father has chess in his flat. Flat is my study in her opinion."
- As far as I know, you don't smoke. Did you happen to begin smoking?
- I happened. But the point is not that I didn't like it or it's not useful for health. Smoking-room is always a place for communication, a peculiar club. It's easier to go for popularity there - to tell an anecdote during the puffs at the cigarettes. You can make a brillant display in other way. But it's not for me... I think that common serious cause brings people together. But in smoking -room it's all as unsubstantial as smoke.
- Do you have friends? How many of them are playfellows (childhood friends).
- It happened that little differences in childhood became great and separated us. Friend is a person whom it's difficult to live without, it's next to impossible. To become close friends to such extent people should have the same auras, they must realize life in the same way, they have identical approaches, expectations, desires. And of course, you can seldom meet such people.
But I am happy. When you deal with real deeds, you have people in your surrounding who are dear to me: neither flighty, nor rolling stones. And I have a circle of close people catching the meaning at once.
LIFE IN MOVEMENT
- Did you happen to be in need of money?
- I happened to be in need of money when I graduated from the institute - I had no money and didn't know where to get it. During the studies I had scholarship, worked in summer, my parents helped me. And then when I settled down to married life and began building of my own house - it was the time when I learned the seamy side of life.
- Was it the the reason of setting up your own firm?
- It was partly the reason, but moreover, it was very interesting for me. We were young and didn't used to old routine when you are on sofa and then go to work and vice versa. We could grasp, go deep in new things. It was other form of life and work, promised much and independence included. That level of business activity was the most. But the country was changing and we had no discomfort. It was natural to market economy.
- So you've taken this step.
- Surely.
- And what about you taking a step to politics What for?
- The world can live in movement only. It is the only way of life possible. If you stop, you dive and go downstairs. My work in the State Duma gave the possibility to make more than I could before. My voters supported me and couldn't let them down. They thought that I could do much useful for them. And I realized it.
- Sergei Anatolievich, can you have a rest?
In a sense. If go to beautiful place with pine forest, a river, calmness... Not to sunbathe or play billiards wthout stopping, but to think over some programme, to systematize the experience existing.
When you work out every point of your programme not being in a hurry - it's a great thing! It's a kind of rest and you enjoy it. Especcially if you'll have something necessary and lively as a result.
- And my final question. Do you think that you are happy?
(He thought it over). I'm not an unhappy person. At least, as for I've lived, I have no wish to rewrire. I've lived it working intensively. And the main point is that I didn't depend on anyone or anything. I didn't used to sit and wait if I had fortune. And everything is in the same It's probably happiness.
